For reasons completely out of my control I was given the best part of a whole day today to knit while the IT guys sort out the server that is normally keeping me on my toes on any given weekday. This state of freedom is a completely unknown state for me to be in and if I was a proper housewife, well, actually, if I was a proper woman or even a proper human being I would have launched into domestic Goddess mode, but this does not come natural to me at all, so I went into knitting trance instead, round and around and around on circular needles.
I actually eliminated the end of the green Kauni Effektgarn that was making me sick to my stomach to look at in the stash, as I completed the Seventies Hat from last night! The orange colour is just so seventies, don’t you think?

I knit it in garter stitch, or rather I knit it in plain knitting with the inside out, running the yarn on the right side; if you get my drift… I like the colour effect that the garter stitch gives and I like that texture for a hat only. Garter stitch makes little round me look even rounder, so I always go for something simple and plain knit for myself. I realize Zimmermann was completely besotted with garter stitch, but then again, I have actually never seen a picture where she wore it herself, so there. Giggle!

The hat is floppy and a fairly loose fit, which seems to be in vogue in certain quarters and I particularly enjoyed making the long end to tie the knot on. It has the exact effect I was looking for. Now I just wonder how fast I can get the next one off the needles, which is entirely up to the IT guys that rule my life. The domesticities will have to wait until next spring when the sun will again reach into all the corners of my home. And so say all of us, right?!
That’s cute – and OH SO 70s! LOL – the stitch, the colour, the shape; everything!
To me it’s completely 70’s! And fun to knit too, which is even better!
Very 70´s and very very cute!
[…] of which one is already knitted up, I just need to do the trimming and blocking and that but the IT guys are at me again, so I wonder when I will get a chance to play around with yarn and needles […]
Fáilte Harpa, yeah, I think it’s cute too although I wouldn’t be seen dead in the colours myself! 😉
[…] did actually have one tiny ball of the absolutely smallest kind left of the green Kauni Effektgarn. I do think I have made it […]
