The ideas are simply rolling off the needles these days. The misery of yet another Irish summer is at least good for that, because all you can do is to light a candle, listen to some radio, an audio book or some music and let the needles walk their walk. ‘Tis raining cats and dogs!
I thought I was on to a brilliant idea, which I suppose I could have been and I knitted and knitted and crochet at bit and the initial knit was nice enough, sort of, albeit a bit square and frankly, a bit boring although the Kauni yarn is doing it’s best to lift this hat into a finer sphere. But no, let’s face it, this hat is boring.

I liked the square top, but there was something missing, and I thought I would ad a feminie touch with some crochet flowers. Good idea in theory, but not such a good idea in reality, it turned out. It reminds me of the hideous swim caps that women with high hair used in the 60s and 70s. This one is a non-runner and will be ripped and re-knit!!!
While I was knitting the completely gone wrong Swim Cap I thought up this other fun hat. I had this idea of having a spiralling top and some ear flaps and I even thought I would jump at the bit of garter stitch and make a little brim around the edge of the hat at the change from garter stitch to plain knitting. I have only one word to describe this attempt: DISASTER!!! I will leave the picture to explain the rest…

I will go back to the drawing board and get ripping. I do want to make something with earflaps and now I am thinking i-cord and things like that. We’ll see. One thing is for sure, the proverbial socks needs to be pulled up pretty high here!
Now I just wonder, will the well of ideas ever dry out? If the Irish summer has anything to do with it, there is no chance of a drought for the foreseeable future!
LOL – I’m sure you could find a couple of leprechauns (sp?) that would fit those perfectly… great colours though!
Great colours is right, but that is all and not enough! Not even for a leipreachán!!!
I actually think the disaster hat is kind of cute!
Pssst, Harpa, so do I, secretly, but don’t tell anybody! It just needs a bit of tweaking and with a bit of brute force and ignorance, I will make it work!!! Right? Right! 😉
