I had a blast last weekend. First of all, I managed to blast off from Dublin Airport while knitting socks. I was knitting socks on the plane with the delicious Tofutsie yarn which I would love to knit a sweater in as I am not really convinced of the durability of it for socks. Basically, I find it a waste of time to knit socks without any poly-something-or-the-other in the yarn, silk, wool and cotton just hasn’t got the same durability in my view. However, the yarn is simply delicious to knit and I can just imagine it as a nice light sweater.
The real blast was on Saturday at the I Knit Day 2008 in London. What a blast! I saw all the knitting gurus, all the underground knitters, the overground ones too and had a chat with my Danish friends about how we don’t see knitting as an underground movement, Danes never stopped knitting – really.

I had the good fortune to hear The Yarn Harlot herself explain about the continuous development of the brain in people who do ‘simple, repetitive tasks’ (thanks for remembering the correct term, Lisa. I obviously don’t perform enough ‘simple, repetitive tasks’ myself). She was a serious blast of good humour with resulting sore tummy.
I found this blast of silver lining on a selection of yarn lovers. The shoes belong to a yarn merchant, a professional knitter (for whom I have no link) and a knitwear designer. A Silver Lined match made in Yarn Heaven. Which shoes do you think belong to whom?

The day was silver lined with the company of my friends Lisa, Birgitte and my lovely Sister and her sister-in-law, we looked, felt, smelled, chatted, knitted, exchanged techniques, we ate, drank and talked and talked and talked! What a blast. I also had the good fortune to be spotted by a couple of nice fellow Ravellers and honorary Irishwomen like myself. I met both Chick With Stix and Tea and Cake, what more can a knitter ask for? We decided that we must meet sometime when this ‘culchie’ hit Dublin. I’d like that a lot!
Now I just wonder if I will get to do ‘simple, repetitive tasks’ again any time soon and thank God that I don’t have to perform the same ‘simple, repetitive tasks’ the poor sods who partook in the Cambridge study did, I will actually have a finished object to show – eventually…
I’m still buzzing from that weekend. I had such a great time both at the Iknit day and, of course, having you around for days on end. I’m so glad you enjoyed yourself, but to be honest I fail to see how anyone could BUT enjoy themselves. 🙂
Teewee, ’twas simply the ultimate weekend. Being with people you love doing what you love doing, what more can a woman ask for? Thank you!
